Fairy Takes
Niall Morris & Rachel Woodside

Synopsis

A recollection of two popular fairy tales, recounted without drawing on resources of digital technology or long kept copies of childhood books.

Sloppy and erratic at points it takes a questioning yet assertive tone, presiding dominance over ‘true’ fiction. The difficulty and humour arising from these recordings perhaps highlights at points our turning attitudes towards long term memory in the digital age: the shift of our greater memory from within our heads and shelves to online resources.

2 Become 1
Niall Morris & Rachel Woodside

Synopsis

The love child of a Scottish-Northern Irish cross community project. Words never spoken pass from star-crossed lovers’ lips as a single voice, birthed from complex algorithms, navigating the waters of romance.

A voice synthesis algorithm utilising machine learning techniques to ‘clone’ a human voice has been trained using two datasets: one from each of the artists. The aim of this process is to amalgamate our voices into one digital representation: attempting to make ‘2 Become 1’.

This work uses the karaoke backing track for the Spice Girl’s 1996 single 2 Become 1 , and features the output of the aforementioned process performing vocals.
